Carried Across - UPenn Smilow Center for Translational Research

2013

About

As a part of the permanent collection of the Penn Medicine Art collection, Carried Across is inspired by RNA translation. Encoded information in the base of the sculpture forms a scaffold to support a floating mass of ever-changing color. As a glowing terminus to the walkway from the Perelman Center, it strives to inspire researchers, doctors, and patients alike and create wayfinding and identity to the building's social space.  Made in collaboration with Jake Beckman.

Modal Glow - Septa Art In Transit Finalist

2013

About

Modal Glow was a proposed biomorphic sculpture for the 33rd and Dauphin Bus Loop Station as a part of Septa’s Art in Transit Program. Both spatial and formal concepts reference grasslike forms, the leaded glass architectural heritage of the neighborhood, and the music of former Strawberry Mansion resident John Coltrane. A bar from Coltrane’s seminal piece, Giant Steps, is used to place the poles in both plan and elevation. Modal Glow was one of three finalists in the competition. Made in collaboration with Jake Beckman.
